Kafka Connect is a connector-based framework for continuously transferring data from Kafka topics into external systems, including Apache Iceberg tables. It supports modular ingestion and helps onboard operational databases, APIs, and SaaS sources without building every integration from scratch. section 2.7.2 section 4.5.1
Use Kafka Connect when the ingestion architecture needs to:
- Stream high-frequency, append-heavy events into Iceberg with low latency. section 4.5.1
- Keep ingestion modular while combining Kafka Connect with batch processing tools for updates, corrections, validation, and recovery. section 4.5.1
Banking event ingestion
A bank can use Kafka Connect alongside Apache Flink to continuously write market-tick and order events into Iceberg tables, while reserving reconciliation and correction logic for controlled batch jobs. section 4.5.1
