The Kubernetes API is the programmatic interface for querying and changing Kubernetes resource state. The control plane manages workloads, namespaces, nodes, and other resources through it. section 3.2.3
From an observability perspective, the API exposes signals but does not provide a complete telemetry pipeline. Teams must collect, route, store, and query those signals separately. section 3.2.3
Operationally, the API connects several concerns:
- Control-plane system logs include API-server logs, alongside kubelet and container-runtime logs. section 3.2.3
- The metrics endpoint can be queried with kubectl to inspect API-server behavior such as admission-controller latency. section 3.2.3
- Low-level integrations, including load balancers and networked storage, may vary across cloud providers despite portable workloads. section 3.2.3
Inspecting API-server metrics
Run `kubectl get --raw /metrics` and filter for `apiserver` to examine metrics such as admission-controller duration histograms. section 3.2.3
Use the signal-source overview to distinguish control-plane and data-plane telemetry around the Kubernetes API. section 3.2.3
