A color palette is a coordinated set of colors that gives a website a mood and supports its purpose. Choose colors for the audience and message rather than selecting them only because they look attractive. section 6.6
Match colors to the website
A medical website might pair white with light blue to suggest cleanliness, trust, and authority. A recipe collection might favor red, yellow, orange, or brown: warm colors can suggest appetite, while excessive dark blue may feel cold and suppress appetite. section 4.3.1 section 6.6
Use this short process when planning a palette:
- Identify the impression the site should make, such as reliability, warmth, sobriety, health, or celebration. section 6.6
- Compare conventions for the site’s subject: Halloween sites use black and orange, banks often use blue, and legal sites may use monochrome colors. section 6.6
- Ask GPT or another AI system for suggestions, then judge whether the recommendations fit the brand and message. section 6.6
- Apply the choices to the page background, frame, typography, secondary text, and hyperlinks, then review the finished page visually. section 6.5 section 4.3.1
A theme usually supplies a starting palette, but it need not be perfect. In WordPress, open Appearance > Customize to change the color scheme and individual colors without editing theme files; those changes survive theme updates. section 6.0 section 6.5
