Trajectory

As explained in Evolutionary Deep Learning: Genetic algorithms and neural networks

An episode is one complete trajectory of interaction between a reinforcement-learning agent and its environment, from an initial state to termination.

A rollout is one complete trajectory of interaction between a reinforcement-learning agent and its environment, beginning at an initial state and ending when the environment terminates. The trajectory records the agent’s successive states, actions, rewards, and transitions. section 11.1.1 section 11.5

A rollout typically follows this operational pattern:

Frozen Lake rollout

A rollout starts on the 4-by-4 Frozen Lake grid. The Q-learning agent repeatedly chooses up, down, left, or right, receives rewards after each move, and stops when it reaches the goal or falls through a hole. Several completed rollouts can then be used to exercise the learned agent. section 11.1.1

How Evolutionary Deep Learning: Genetic algorithms and neural networks covers it

How deep it goes
Explains the reset-action-step loop and termination conditions, but stops short of formal trajectory notation or rollout distribution analysis.
Examples
Uses Frozen Lake episodes and Lunar Lander training episodes as concrete rollout examples.
What it assumes
Assumes basic reinforcement-learning terms while establishing environment resets, discrete state and action spaces, rewards, and termination from executable examples.
What you can do after
Apply it via OpenAI Gym to run, record, train on, and evaluate complete agent-environment trajectories.
How it connects
Connects reinforcement learning with agents, environments, Q-learning, deep Q-networks, states, actions, rewards, and replay memory.
