Machine learning is a subset of artificial intelligence in which systems teach themselves patterns, behaviors, or strategies instead of receiving instructions for every outcome. Some learned behaviors can appear emergent or difficult to explain. section 13.3
Machine learning connects with several major AI domains:
- Deep learning uses layered artificial neural networks to learn complex representations from vast amounts of data. section 13.3
- Robotics applies AI learning and reasoning to physical machines, sensors, movement, and object interaction. section 13.3
- Natural language processing applies AI to understanding and generating human language. section 13.3
AlphaGo learns Go
AlphaGo Zero received only the rules of Go, without prior game data, human coaching, programming instructions, or expert tips. Through deep learning, it developed novel strategies that defeated leading human players, including winning all three games against Ke Jie in 2017. section 13.3.1
